Cinematic portrait photography is a style of portrait photography that draws inspiration from the aesthetics and techniques of cinematic filmmaking. This style of photography often emphasizes dramatic lighting, use of colour grading, and composition to create a cinematic or film-like quality in the final images.
This should be a fun and enjoyable experience. Be yourself, and have fun with the creative process. I usually bring a speaker so we can listen to music (unless we are in a loud or quiet environment). I'm down for any music you like.
Get a good night's sleep and get plenty of rest the day before. This will help you look and feel your best on the day of the photo session. Avoid excessive alcohol. Drinking plenty of water is essential to keep skin looking healthy and hydrated.
Absolutely! This might sound odd, but get in front of a mirror and practice your poses! Learn your angles and practice your best expressions ahead of time and you will feel 100% more confident in front of the camera.
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. It depends on your personal style and purpose of the portrait. If you are taking a portrait for business, then business attire may be appropriate. If the portrait is for personal use or a casual setting, you may choose to wear something more casual. Choose clothes that make you feel confident and comfortable. Bring a few options so we can choose the best ones for your vision.
If possible, it's best to get your hair and makeup done professionally (we do not provide these services). If you are doing it yourself, keep it simple and avoid anything too drastic or unusual.
Pay close attention to all aspects of your facial hair — nose, ears, moustache, beard, eyebrows, and even eyelashes—as they all play a role in creating a polished appearance. While some areas may not be immediately noticeable, they significantly impact the overall impression your photo conveys. To ensure a refined and professional look, take the time to groom thoroughly the day before your shoot—unless, of course, you’re auditioning for a Sasquatch commercial!
I will come to your location with all my gear but the best place to create a cinematic portrait will depend on your specific needs. The background helps to create an atmosphere and add to the cinematic effect. Even though the background will be blurry and out of focus, textures, lights or architectural elements will add to the mood of the portrait. I have photographed in offices, warehouses, parks, laneways, backyards, in front of graffiti / street art / large paintings, art galleries, inside garages and living rooms. The bigger the space the better the outcome. Let's see what options we have available at your location.
Editing is just as important as the photoshoot itself. It helps me achieve the desired look and feel of the image and bring out the mood and atmosphere you want to convey. Through careful editing, I can create a portrait that truly captures your essence and conveys a cinematic quality. It is also quality control, all details are considered and the things that don't belong are adjusted. The end result is a 100% focus on you without distractions.
Showcase your business team in the best light possible. Make an impact on your clients and show them your most important asset - your people.
We come to your location to photograph your individual team members. All we need is space for lights, backgrounds and camera. Maybe a boardroom or a hallway or even outside.
Set up, test and ready to shoot in as little as 30 minutes.
How big is your company? Do you have a small office with just a couple people or is your company growing with over 70 employees and tons of vehicles? No matter the size, we photograph business and corporate groups all over Toronto and surrounding areas.
